Have you heard of Cheese Days? No?  Well it is a pretty big deal.  At least in the state of Wisconsin.  It’s a festival that has been going on for a long time in Monroe, Wisconsin that celebrates, you guessed it, cheese.  I was going to be going there for the first time.  I’m about an hour and a half away, which isn’t that far, but I have family closer that I was going to stay with overnight.  I was asked to stop at Papa Murphy’s on the way through Janesville to pick up a pizza.  Pizza places don’t deliver to their farm.

Papa Murphy’s is a take and bake pizzeria.  That means you pick up the pizza there and then bake it off at your house.  I pull in at around 7:30 on Saturday night.  It was nice clean place with a cooler for soda and then the work station where they make your pizza.  I had no wait and went right to the register to order.  Three of us were going to be eating, two big guys, so I went with the family size.  They had a one-topping special for $10 (total $10.55).  I opted for an original crust pepperoni.

The check prints out and they got to work.  The pulled out a crust, I didn’t see where, and poured on the sauce.  Then a little cheese and finally added my pepperoni.  Then they added a cheese blend at the end.  They wrapped it up with instructions and off I went.  I called my uncle when I left so the oven was ready when I got there.

Got to my aunt and uncle’s house and popped it in the oven.  We just unwrapped it and left it on the tin it was wrapped with.  Bake, bake, bake and then it’s done.

It had a good color.  We let it sit for a few minutes.  Of course we cut it into pie wedges.  Does anyone really prefer the square pieces?  I doubt it.  Then I dug in.

The crust had a good crunch to it along the outside that stuck out from the pan.  The rest could have been a little crisper for my taste.  The pepperoni was fine but was really thinly sliced.  The cheese blend added a little that straight mozzarella wouldn’t have.  The sauce could have been better.  I think I saw the website say that it’s freshly made sauce, but it just seemed bland to me.

Overall I just thought the pizza was ok.  There were some other prepared pizzas there that were desserts; those looked real good.  I would probably order here again for the what they offer; if you are out and about and want to pick something up but don’t want it to get cold on your way home, this is a good option.  And the price seemed good for its quality.
