I’m doing something a little different this week; I’m going to be reviewing a frozen pizza.  I eat plenty of them so I figured I might do those as well.  I went with one that I routinely buy, the DiGiorno Rising Crust.  They have one of my favorite topping combos; spinach, mushroom, and garlic.  In fact, I probably first had that combo because of this frozen pizza.

I’ve noticed that if I go to a pizza place and they have a similar combo listed on their menu, it always seems to be with an alfredo sauce.  This one has a red sauce.  I defintely prefer the red sauce over alfredo.

I bought this pizza at a Jewel, I believe.  They were on sale at two for $10.  I follow the instructions on the back of the box and preheat the oven to 400 degrees.  The pizza is wrapped in a vacuum sealed plastic within the box.  It also sits on a cardboard round which is good.  I hate when frozen pizzas don’t come with one.  What am I supposed to put it on once it comes out of the oven, right on the counter?  I don’t think so.  I bake it on a pizza stone; I like the crust stones provide.  It says bake 23-27 minutes.  I pulled mine out in that range.

The hard part is letting it sit

One of the worries with spinach on pizza is the possible extra water.  It seemed to not be an issue.  The crust was a nice golden color.  The middle could have been darker but As golden as the crust was I didn’t want to risk burning it.  Maybe the spinach did contribute to the lack of browning.

So how’s the flavor?  Like I said, it’s one that I go to again and again.  I’ve found it to be one of my favorite frozen pizzas at a good price point.  The crust is a bit bland but it does have a nice crunch on the crust.  The toppings are plentiful and the garlic is roasted so that helps.  There is plenty of cheese but I would like a little more sauce on the pizza.

I will buy this again, that shouldn’t be a surprise.  However I’ve noticed that I only do buy it when it’s on sale.  I don’t think the quality is worth the full price.  Thinking about it though, I buy most of my frozen pizza only if it’s on sale.  It’s probably a quantity over quality thing.
